Breakfast and departure for the seaside town of Essaouira. Where the argan trees grow from which the very expensive Argan oil comes from. Essaouira is a... walled castle town with a strong island colour. This town was developed in the 16th century by the Portuguese, due to the security provided by its natural harbour from the Atlantic winds. The present town was built in the 18th century by Mohammed III, who wanted to turn his kingdom towards the Atlantic in order to have more contact with the European powers. The Old Town or Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The houses are tall, white mansions, two and three storeys high, with blue windows, reminiscent of the architecture of the Cyclades. However, many have been damaged by the intense humidity from the Atlantic fog. Although the entrance gates to the city are narrow, the inner streets are quite wide, offering a sense of simplicity. In the city's cobbled squares and along the main streets, merchants sell all sorts of goods, including carpets, iron tables, slippers, bamboo, artwork (paintings) and various types of spices and herbs. Walking around the city, the visitor ends up at the defensive wall that surrounds it. At one end is the castle with cannons ready to protect it from pirates. On the other, the built harbour with hundreds of fishing boats and fishing boats. Along the road, dozens of vendors have set up stalls selling the ocean's rich booty - sardines, shrimps, lobsters, crayfish, crabs, all kinds of fish and seafood. The process is simple: the customer chooses, sits down at some makeshift tables and waits to be grilled on the spot. The process of eating by the sea, with a view of the city and the smell of grilled seafood filling the atmosphere, is unforgettable. In the afternoon return to Marrakech filled with unique images and memories.
